EFSE lends to Agroprosperis Bank EUR 5 million in UAH to finance local farmers

The European Fund for Southeast Europe (EFSE), an impact investment fund advised by Finance in Motion, has provided a local currency loan equivalent to EUR 5 million to Ukraine’s Agroprosperis Bank (AP Bank) to support local agricultural producers.

The member of a top-3 Ukraine’s crop production businesses, Agroprosperis Group, AP Bank is the only specialized financial institution in the country that serves exclusively agricultural clients. The EFSE loan will enable the bank to offer longer-term financing to small and medium farmers in local currency. By targeting this major sector of the Ukrainian economy, the transaction aims to contribute to overall business and economic development in Ukraine – in keeping with EFSE’s mission to foster prosperity and employment in the region.

EFSE Board Chairman Christoph Tiskens said: “EFSE warmly welcomes AP Bank to the network of on-the-ground partners who help the fund reach its target group of entrepreneurs in need of sustainable financing. AP Bank’s commitment to serving local agricultural businesses, combined with its solid expertise, technologies, and reputation in the sector, make it a natural fit for EFSE’s operations in Ukraine.”

Maja Gizdic, Director at EFSE Advisor Finance in Motion, added: “EFSE’s objective is not only to provide development finance for economic growth, but to do so in a responsible manner that supports and sustains local infrastructure. By issuing loans in local currency, EFSE allows business owners access to long-term, stable financing without the risks inherent to exchange rate fluctuations.”

Agroprosperis Bank CEO Serhii Shchepanskyi remarked: “Cooperation with EFSE will significantly increase the bank's ability to support Ukrainian small and medium-sized agricultural producers. This is the next step towards the consistent implementation of Agroprosperis Bank’s mission: bringing global resources to Ukrainian farmers. We strongly believe that providing underfinanced small farmers with proper resources in a responsible manner will boost the productivity of Ukraine’s entire agricultural sector and will have a positive impact on the development of rural areas.”

KUHN and Agroprosperis Bank offer farmers a beneficial loan program of farm equipment acquisition

On May 2, 2018, Agroprosperis Bank and KUHN Ukraine entered into a partnership agreement of purchase KUHN farm equipment by small and medium-sized agricultural producers.

The key advantages of the partnership program are long-term financing – up to 7 years, as well as the speed of decision-making – no more than 3-5 working days. This program is available for farmers with a land area starting from only 100 hectares.

"I am sure that our programs with Agroprosperis Bank will be in great demand. For the last 3-4 years, agricultural producers with a land bank less than 1.5 thousand ha have scaled up their activities in purchasing farm equipment, which requires significant investments. The program is distributed to all KUHN Ukraine dealers," says Asad Lapsh, CEO of KUHN Ukraine. "We have been working with Agroprosperis for a long time. Last year, a large program of testing equipment on the Agroprosperis production companies’ fields was carried out. Not so many banks in Ukraine specialize in agribusiness."

According to Serhii Shchepanskyi, Agroprosperis Bank Chairman of the Board, the basic conditions that interest clients are time and money. "We offer a maximum term of up to 7 years, while the average financing term on the market is 5 years. Thanks to our program, the loan rates will be lower than in case of the classic bank financing of equipment. We will actively develop partnership programs with KUHN, because we are interested in our clients working on good equipment," said Serhii Shchepanskyi.

In the third quarter of 2017, Agroprosperis Bank reached profitability and received an annual profit of UAH 6.392 million.

In the opinion of the agency, Agroprosperis Bank during the whole period was provided with liquidity and regulatory capital at levels that significantly exceed not only the requirements of the NBU, but also average amounts throughout the banking system.

In particular, it should be noted that in the Bank's portfolio there were no loans to individuals, and the share of non-working loans to legal entities (NPL) as of February 1, 2018 amounted to an unprecedented 0.02% with the average value of the share of NPL in the banking system at 57.57%. This indicates the very high quality of the loan portfolio of Agroprosperis Bank.

The first crop receipt in Rivne region was financed by Agroprosperis Bank

On February 6, 2018, Agroprosperis Bank and Mizotske RTE signed the first crop receipt in Rivne region for UAH 1.39 mln, secured by the future corn harvest of 2018.

Mizotske RTE has been a regular client of Agroprosperis Bank for the past three years and has repeatedly received financing from the bank on a pledge of the future harvest. The enterprise cultivates 900 hectares of land, sows high quality seeds of imported hybrids and uses the modern technology of crops growing.

"Everything new is always interesting, and you want to try it, - says Yuri Sosiuk, financial director of the borrower company. - We have been working with Agroprosperis Bank for two years and believe that it effectively cooperates with its clients and quickly takes decisions. Agroprosperis Bank has significant experience in crop receipts; therefore, as soon as this tool began to operate in our area, we immediately issued it. We are particularly grateful to the bank’s regional manager Nazarii Bilash for the assistance and support in signing the crop receipt."

According to the chairman of the management board of Agroprosperis Bank Serhii Shchepanskyi, Mizotske RTP sows high quality imported seeds and adheres to the modern technology of growing crops, and for the bank the level of agricultural technology of the borrower is an important factor. "We are ready to finance farms with high culture of production and an impeccable business reputation on the pledge of a future harvest that has not even been sown. And a crop receipt is the only tool that makes it possible. Therefore, we support the extension of the project of crop receipts overall Ukraine", - said Serhii Shchepanskyi.
